"Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own."
― Robert A. Heinlein,
Shivaaye watched as the festive season seeped through their house. Everyone was in a lovely, joy full mood, planning for the upcoming functions with gusto. Their were grand debates going on about the decorations and how to make their function the grandest in the whole city. He could literally feel the excitement running through the veins of all the youngsters and their family members gathered together to plan the celebration of upcoming Ganpati pooja. Although he could see the genuine happiness on everyone's face he couldn't quite place the same happiness on his wife and elder daughter's face, something seemed a miss their like they didn't quite want to sit and plan the whole thing like  they weren't at all interested in the whole affair and he couldn't help be worried about them.
Anika, his wife loved planning such things. She was a wedding planner before their marriage after all and an adherent devotee of god. She loved all those sparkly decorations and participated in preparation of food and all with quite gusto but today she sat silently among the  family, who were putting in their inputs quite loudly, caressing their son's hair as he sat on the floor placing his head on his mother's lap and shouted his ideas to everyone while all the cousins debated on those sets of ideas and pointed out it's pros and cons to him. He couldn't help but laugh out loud the way his son, grumbled and proclaimed that they just couldn't appreciate his genius. His son was such an innocent and fun loving boy but still he couldn't help but be worried watching the strained smile on his wife's lips and the lack of interest his eldest daughter was showing in the family conversation, checking her phone every now and then.
He still could make an excuse of her lack of interest taking in the fact that she completed her studies from abroad and it has been just a year since she returned back to the country and most of her time was dedicated to her work and establishing herself here. He had told her he'll open her personal hospital for her with world class facilities but she denied stating she wanted to learn more under the best. so, he had let her do what she wanted to do and he can clearly see the happiness shining in her eyes after a few days of working. He can literally understand her disinterest in all this planning and rituals as his daughter didn't have enough knowledge on that front. His daughter, his first child Ishani was like a shadow of her mother in looks and a shadow of him in behaviour. A total hygiene freak, always using spoon and knives to eat like a proper lady,  with excellent table mannerism and not at all interested in eating all those unhealthy rich oily indian food her mother loves so much. She was like him with class, grace and knowledge a perfect little thing and he could never quite believe duty can create something as perfect as her.
Then there was Shivaansh, the product of their passion for each other. The result of untamed passion for each other and he was wild, wild and free, always doing what he wants to do. He was a joyful child going with the motto of "Zindagi jeene k liye hoti hai.....jeetne k liye nhi ( The live is for living to the full extent not winning)". He was full of happiness, mischievousness, dreams and adventures. He was the source of joy in their life.
Then there was sweet Swara, the product of their love. A child full of loveliness and sweetness, a child full of life and filling their world with unconditional love. She was kind, compassionate and oh so sweet. Loving everyone around her and all three of them were Shivaaye's most treasured treasures. They were so precious to Shivaaye as precious as the women who gifted them to him. The women who filled his heart with love and taught him the true meaning of love. The women he loves with every molecule of his being yet had never told her the three magical words in their married life of 29 years. The women he forced to marry him and in the end lost his heart to her, the women who changed his perception about the whole world, the women he can't live without, the women who filled his world with magic and miracles his Anika. The love of his life.
The women who entered his life like storm and stayed in his life like earth, supporting him and his family in every stage of their life. She was there for them always and he hopes he had succeeded in supporting her too. He was so angry on dadi when she told him that he couldn't divorce Anika no matter what and she was now the daughter-in-law of this family. He was livid when she made him introduce her as his wife in front of the world and even made him confess the truth of Tia in front of the world which in turn brought out Tia's truth in front of them all and he couldn't help but be thankful to the god for taking that decision. He watched as Badi ma tutored Anika in the way of their living along with Dadi teaching her the way she should behave and turned her to be one of the most perfect daughter-in-law's of the city. No other family could bring them down in any matter and then Anika supported him and protected his family along with him from every danger. He fell and fell hard for the selfless, kind but somewhat eccentric girl who had her own weird vocabulary and loved to talk with non-living objects and address them as if they too had soul. He loves her so much, he loves the way she says "Khidkitod" or the way she names her "slippers", the way her eyes shines with joy and fulfillment while eating "allu puri". He loves all things about her even though he had noticed her hardly using her past vocabulary this days but didn't thought much about that as he watched her smile brightly at their children and family, as she prepared their kids fav dishes always by herself never letting the chefs prepare food for their kids, not even when she have to practice hours to master something new the kids loved to eat and he loved her for everything.
In his internal musing, he didn't even realize that the meeting for Ganpati celebration was almost over and the children seemed a little too excited telling Anika, Gauri and Bhavya what they wanted to eat. He couldn't help but smile watching how adorably they were making their demands known, his eyes landed on Ishani knowing his dear daughter will ask for Pasta just like his Rudy. he didn't quite like the frown on her face as she messaged someone on her phone. He didn't like watching her in strain but she herself has chosen a profession in which he can't help her anyway but outside her work he can pamper her all he wants. He thought smiling brightly as he thought of making her fav pasta for her himself.
"Ishu baccha, what'll you like to have??" he heard his dear wife ask his daughter and he was ready to inform her that he'll prepare his princess fav pasta for her but was surprised along with every other member of the house hearing his princess demand
"Mumma, can you make Vada pav??" he wasn't sure if he heard right his hygiene freak princess asking to eat Vada pav....how is that even possible?? he is sure he misheard but the beaming smile on his wife's face told him he heard absolutely right and he didn't have the heart to say anything that'll wipe that heartwarming smile off his wife's face, maybe Ishani also made that demand to make her mother happy. Shivaaye could do anything to make sure that beautiful smile always stays on his Anika's face. she is the reason of his smile, she is the reason of his life, she is his world and his happiness and he can do anything for her.
He was surprised watching his daughter eat without spoon and knife for the first time. He was more surprised watching her eat Vada pav with gusto and he was so proud of her as he watched the happiness in Anika's eyes. Anika was so happy watching her daughter appreciate a food she had consumed most of her life, a food that made her feel happy and was with her in all her sad and happy moments and both Shivaaye and Anika were so proud of Ishani at that moment, for trying something out of her comfort zone as they both didn't know the real story behind their daughter's sudden interest in Vada Pav.
It was the evening of the Ganesh Chaturthi, everyone was invited in OM to be part of Oberoi's grand Ganpati celebration. Shivaaye's eyes were following his wife like a lost puppy since the moment she stepped out of their room dressed in white and gold. She looked stunning and he followed her around like a love sick teenage boy. On his stalking venture of his wife he noticed his restless elder daughter looking towards the entrance every now and then and then glancing at her phone. He didn't like her this restless and impatient avatar and was about to go and ask her what was wrong but seems like his wife beat him to her. he heard his wife whisper gently to her " Sid nhi aaya"
He couldn't help but ponder who this Sid boy is and why was his daughter so restless by his absence?? and why was he hearing about this boy just now?? He watched as his daughter nodded her head in negative sorrowfully and he absolutely didn't like her sorrow filled eyes whoever this Sid guy is better be here soon or he'll himself go and hunt him down here for his princess smile.
"Don't worry, he'll be here soon" his wife reassured their daughter and then spotted him. She made her way towards him with a small smile as she asked him " aap yaha kya kr rhe hai? (what are you doing here)"
"Tumhara peecha ( just following you)" his mind supplied but it sounded too creepy even in his mind so instead he stated " just looking around the arrangements"
"Oh, everything is ready"
"I know, You are looking breathtakingly stunning tonight" he whispered to her and watched as she blushed bright red like a tomato, a very cute tomato even after so many years of their marriage she successfully sends his heart at override.
Tum mile, toh mil gaya yeh jahaan
Tum mile, toh har pal hai naya
Tum mile, toh sabse hai, faasla
Tum mile, toh jaadu chaa gaya
Tum mile, toh jeena aa gaya
Tum mile, toh maine paaya, hai khuda
Ishani watched with a small smile as her parents conversed together, she loved the glow on her mother's face and the love clearly shining in her father's eyes. Her parents love story was a fairy tale to her, a tale out of the books just like the beast and beauty. They were couple goals for her with everlasting love even though she strongly disliked her father's previous self and actions. She still loves her father the best in the whole world. She has seen her parents love throughout her childhood yet she also noticed her mother's craving for a world quite not matching theirs. She had watched throughout her childhood how her mother was never herself during all the parties, festivals and any other functions happening in their house. There was a craving and strained smile on her face. The way she looked utterly exhausted after all the kitty parties and the wistful look in her eyes when she told them stories of her childhood and chawl, told them the games she used to play in childhood and how she used to address people and live.
She could never understand how could her mother crave for the dirty chawl and all those things while living such a luxurious life. How can her mother still crave that dirty life and talk about that wistfully? how can she think about those ill mannered dirty people and their vulgar language and all??? She hated when her mother made all that oily food and talked about a life she can't ever live. Not until this luxurious life showed her it's dark side, not until she was pushed down in black waters by this luxurious life and shown about the facades people wears in this luxurious life. The dirty politics and daggers hidden behind sweet words, where getting top positions wasn't a necessity but a thing to brag about and a way of improving their social standings, where every achievement wasn't a necessity to live but a source of barging and showing other down. The luxurious life she loved from the childhood now looks like a golden cage to her as she can still notice the people talking behind her parents back, back bitching about everything, pointing out nooks and talking about everyone's dress, creating imaginary feuds and suffocating her by just their presence. Triggering her tiggers and she wouldn't be able to help herself or her family if an anxiety attack took her in it's grasp right now.
She remembers the flashing lights and fairy lights shining on her face, and the punches rained down on her body, the knife flashing in the light and the cruel glint in Jai's eyes as he smirked evilly down at her. The knife tracing the strips of her dress before cutting them down and the surge of panic rising in her heart even in her drunken state. The anger in his eyes as she got saved from his wicked ways and the way he kicked her brutally, angrily, inhumanly. Daksh uncle's son, a guy she knew from her childhood and a fellow Indian studying abroad.
"hey sorry, I'm late" a soft voice whispered in her ears apologizing, cold hands resting on her waist as she jumped in her place and away from the hand eyes wide in fear and heart beating rapidly in fear as she turned back to see, him standing there with eyes wide full of surprise, hands raised in air in a non threatening way, looking at her with concern filled worried eyes.
"Ishani, I know you're germaphobic dude but no need jumping like a frog and giving me a heart attack dude" his words were teasing, insulting and endearing at the same time as she threw herself in his arms at that moment, embracing him tightly. She wasn't afraid of Siddhant Mathur, no she wasn't afraid of Dr Siddhant Mathur, the guy who broke down her walls and have an unhealthy obsession with jadu ki jhappi's and can't talk without touching or was that his personal way of teasing her she doesn't know beside the point that she doesn't like when he behaves like this with anyone else beside her.
"hey Ishu, you alright" and there he was with all his concern for her. Gosh, why did this guy have to be so good, compassionate, empathetic and caring. Why can't he be a jerk like every other guy?? Why he have to be so understanding and sweet and easy to share her secrets with?? Why he had to be her best friend and the guy she is helplessly in love with???
"hmmm....just didn't see you coming"
"I triggered"
"No...you didn't, you saved me from the break down.....the lights are unnerving" she complained to him in a whimper sounding like a lost child, a lost clingy child and didn't guys love aloof, not caring girls then how could Sid tolerate her even when she acts so clingy and desperate with him, ruining his shirts with her tears and even when he has been so hurt because of her.
"So, why don't you show me bappa and we'll pray together and then we can dance and even eat all those junk food. I'll feed you with my clean hands and if you want I can even wear gloves. So, that you don't get onslaught by your germophobia btw did you even keep junk food here, I can't notice any stalls consisting of gol gappas or Vada pavs or even barf ka gola, oh the horror" the way his voice turned low pitch and so girlish as he uttered oh the horror. she couldn't help but laugh, Dr Siddhant Mathur have the super power of making her laugh even in her worse and isn't she hugging him then how can he still call her germaphobic ?? He is the first person she had allowed near her, let her touch and embrace after that incident. He is the only person who knows about the incident and the person on whose shoulder she cried whenever the feelings were being too much to handle. He taught her how to trust others and gave her real friends, whom she can proudly call her chosen family. No, matter how rudely she had behaved with him in the starting or complained about him. He had supported her and made her an important and irreplaceable part of his team.
"Oye baby doll, if you're done meeting and greeting your Dr Sid then we are also in line" the teasing voice of Dr Asha got her out of Dr Sid's arms and she couldn't help but beam at the girl, her first female friend in Sanjeevani who understood her and stood by her side even when she tried her best to drive that girl away from her.
"Asha" she exclaimed the girl's name happily and hugged her tightly and if she tried to hide the blush gracing her cheeks hearing " your Dr Sid" then no one can blame her " Dr Rahil is looking very handsome today, confess your feelings dear" she whispered to Asha watching as Dr Rahil, Dr Aman and Dr Neil conversed with Sid.
Asha blushed bright red hearing her words and peeked at Dr Rahil from the corner of her eyes as she whispered  back to her " you too, dear or some other pankha will come and steal Dr Sid away"
"Don't worry, I'll confess to Dr Sid today and you too tell Dr Rahil about the disease he had infected you with" both the girls giggled looking at the oblivious boys looking at them oddly unknown to the fact how special this day will be to them.
Greeting, Dr Rahil, Dr Neil and Dr Aman happily she took them towards the place where the idol of bappa was situated. She prayed with them and is she was beaming when she and Dr Sid got to do Aarti together no one can blame her. It feels so special to do such things with your beloved ones as if even god agrees on their union.
She reminisces the way Dr Sid has protected her with his body being gravely injured, he has protected her like no one ever did. The way Dr Rahil, Dr Aman and Dr Neil all fought for her and Dr Asha getting injured, the way she got to know the doubts and darkness lingering inside this kind souls and the way they helped each other overcome those insecurities. Now, she knows to judge people by their actions than their background, by their intentions rather than their words and she couldn't help but fall for Dr Sid more and more each passing moment.
Tune duaaein suni, dil ki sadaaye suni
Tujh se main maangu aur kya
Tujh bin adhuri hu main, tere sang poori hu main
Karti hun tera shukriya...
The way his eyes sparkle with mischief and the way all of them dance freely on the beats of dhol surprising all the rich high class people present in their party fills her with glee. She relishes watching their surprise and shock filled expressions as her friends enjoyed themselves and she couldn't help but have a evil idea as she watched Dr Sid dance with gusto looking so adorable, in Dr Sid's language she just had a tedha idea which she is going to apply on this tedha insaan and give all the people around here something to talk about for the coming years as they so love to talk, she'll give them a gossip and scandal they can't forget in coming years. She watched Asha and saw the same idea churning in her brain, smirking both of them made their ways towards their boys.
She watched the adorable grin that stretched on his lips as he made space for her to dance and enjoy freely on the beats but she had something else going on her mind, something hatke.
"Dr Siddhant Mathur, this is your punishment for stealing my heart" She saw the way his eyes widen comically and she'll laugh at his expression latter as for now she pulled him in for a soul steering kiss. She could feel the fireworks happening inside her when he kissed her back and the fireworks lightning up the sky at that moment, she officially stopped caring about the high class society and their mindless talks.
"I love you Dr Siddhant Mathur, Don't you dare ever leave me, alright" She ordered him sternly grinning not caring about anything at all even though the horrified expression on her father's face looked really comical.
Kaise kahoon, lamhe mujhe chu rahe hain
Aisa laga hain in mein tera hi toh ehsaas hain
Oh ho, kaise kahoon, dil mein nayi aahatein hain
Aisa laga hain in mein tera hi toh ehsaas hain...
Tum mile, toh mera dil gaya
Tum mile, toh sab kuch mil gaya
Tum mile, toh logon se kya, vaasta ho oh
Tum mile, toh jaadu chaa gaya
Tum mile, toh jeena aa gaya
Tum mile, toh maine paaya, hai khuda...
the end
