Waves crashed on the shore, leaving behind a serene sound. The sky was a mixture of red and orange hues while flocks of birds glided in the air, flapping their wings, seeking to reach their nests before the eye of the day extinguished. The salty, salubrious breeze teased Maya's locks as she sat on the sand, looking over the horizon.
Her vision was hazy as large tears brimmed in her eyes and she frantically rocked back and forth. He dared refuse her! The Maya Mehrotra...the one who exerted power and dominance over people. Arjun reduced her to a worthless, unwanted nobody within the snap of a finger. He rejected her love...he refused to reciprocate the feelings she emoted towards him. Maya's lips pressed to form a smile as she looked at the crimson liquid oozing from her slashed wrist. She shut her eyes as she dipped her left hand in the sea water and the sodium chloride present in the liquid matter made her injury sting. But it was all right...she found some peace in doing so, at least her physical pain would thwart away her emotional turmoil for some minutes.
The blade of a razor reflected light as Maya lifted it up to her wrist. She didn't deserve to live. If he didn't want to be part of her life, then what was the use of living?
Arjun ran his hands through his hair and sighed out of frustration. She had vanished right after he said that he didn't love her. He was bloody shocked at the confession...he never anticipated that Maya would fall for him, heck, she was madly in love with him! Her facial expression had changed into an unreadable one after he expressed his opinion and she walked away from him at the speed of lightning.
They were both currently in Mauritius for a photoshoot for an issue of Fashion & The City and as the lead photographer Arjun was part of the team. Right after shooting for their campaign, Maya had asked Arjun to stay back as she had something important to tell him.
Arjun watched the setting sun...his quest of finding Maya had been unsuccessful. Where could she have gone? His attention was captivated by a gleam in the dim demesne. The sand silenced the sound of his footsteps as he strode over to where something was shining.
"Maya, leave that!" Arjun boomed as he saw her on the verge of ending her life. Maya stood up hastily and walked aimlessly in front of her, where the sea lied. After breaking her heart, she refused to let him near to her again.
"Maya, just listen to me, you can't do that to yourself!" Arjun tried to reason with her, hoping that she would change her mind but it seemed that she was even more vexed by his words as she picked up speed and reached a point where the water was above her waist. Arjun went behind her and grabbed her arm before she could go any further.
"Leave me Arjun! Just leave me as I am...you're right, I don't deserve to be loved. Then, what's the use of living if there's nobody by my side?" she bitterly said as she tried to jerk him away but he tightened his grasp on her arm and pulled her closer to him, causing their bodies to collide. Maya sharply inhaled as she felt his body over their drenched clothes. He knew that if he do something quickly, her life would be jeopardised and he couldn't let that happen. He inched closer to her and urged her to look at him and lifting her head up with his thumb.
Her eyes mirrored the intensity which his eyes displayed. Her heart accelerated when her lips were engulfed by his. She remained motionless for seconds. However, after she became fully conscious of his actions, she tried to match the rhythm and pace of Arjun's lips. His wet fingers caused goosebumps to erupt over her skin as he trailed his hand over her shoulders and down her arms. Her grip loosened over the razor and he pushed it out of her hands, making it go to the depths of the blue Mauritian sea. Her hands found their way to his neck as they parted from the intimacy gesture.
"I'm sorry Maya, I shouldn't have let you down, you mean a lot to me," he hoarsely whispered as he hugged her. Words seemed limitless to express Maya's state, she didn't remember when she felt so euphoric. Arjun looked at her wrist and led her away from the sea, in order to nurse her wounds. As they walked away, they shadowed the drops of blood which coloured the sand...
